Be the Change! Help us make a difference in underprivileged communities. Your contribution can unlock every child and youth's potential.
Early Childhood Development (ECD) is defined by the early years of a child’s life. The development that occurs during this period forms the foundational blocks for later development and learning. Children at this age form a curiosity for learning. Developing skills in this phase helps provide the tools to become a well-functioning adult. ECD plays a vital role in laying the groundwork for learning, aid cognitive development, encourage emotional development and helps motor development.

Countless partial care facilities are currently operating below their optimal capacity, facing challenges related to funding, safety, and insufficient financial support. These facilities often lack essential skills not covered in ECD NQF training, particularly in underprivileged areas, resulting in children not receiving the necessary educational foundation. It is crucial for these children to have access to a safe environment that fosters their holistic development.
The ECD Blocks project aims to address these issues by following a step-by-step approach that builds upon the existing foundation. This project involves providing assistance to partial care facilities, offering specialised training for practitioners, and implementing evaluation and monitoring processes. Through the ECD Blocks project, these facilities can better cater to children's needs and help them reach their full potential.
1.Foundation Blocks
The initial focus is on enhancing the operations and functionality of partial care facilities. Teachers will receive training to improve classroom management and school policies will be established. Additionally, ECD registration support will be facilitated to create a solid foundation for these facilities.
2.Framing Blocks
This stage includes specialized training for practitioners and principals/owners to equip them with additional knowledge beyond ECD NQF level training. These training sessions cover facility and classroom management, addressing health and safety concerns, and providing entrepreneurial training for effective school operation.
3.Fixing Blocks
Evaluation and monitoring are essential components to prevent project setbacks. This stage involves on-site evaluations, feedback from practitioners and principals/owners, and ensuring stimulating learning environments for children in classrooms.
4.Finishing Blocks
This stage represents the culmination of all previous efforts. By meeting all the needs of children, including emotional, physical, intellectual, and social development, the project aims to foster well-rounded individuals. The ultimate goal is to ensure that every child is fulfilled and experiences comprehensive growth.
The ECD Blocks project will commence with a one-year pilot project followed by a five-year implementation plan. In the first year, Rebuild for Change aims to assist 20 partial care facilities in the metropolitan North and South regions of Cape Town. Each subsequent year, an additional 20 facilities will be targeted, with plans to expand to the Cape Winelands and the West Coast of the Western Cape. By the fifth year, the goal is to service at least 100 partial care facilities. We hope to extend support throughout the Western Cape region and to the rest of South Africa.
